The Workings of the Heart

The heart has a rhythm
a beat
steady on
you know its there, the
synchronicity of muscles--
nerves twitching--
create every moment.

The heart delivers the juice
that fires the mind and body
to be
to do
to love
to transcend
It signals ancient rhythms and rhymes
The rituals of our tribal selves
it echoes breath and movement
It does so much!
And when it stops, we stop--
full stop--
Leaving other hearts still beating--
One may skip a beat,
but it regulates itself and carries on
Drum beats over miles of ocean.
